Interactive learning Resource Topic: Personal Finance

Identify components of the Interactive Learning Resource that might be missing (e.g., appropriate outcomes, alignment, interactivity, inclusivity, technology use and rationale, presentation, grammar, spelling, citations, etc.).

  • The completion of this project is very high, and each pure has a good alignment. Consistency makes the course have a good coherence, so that learners can quickly adapt to the learning mode during learning. I have a question about the “Essential Question” section. It serves as the beginning of each topic, leading to the key questions of each topic. Where do you think it’s interactive? I read the course description and learned that the target group of the course is high school students. Regarding some financial questions, I think high school students may not know the answers. Do students need to make a discussion in this section? Wouldn’t the question be a bit difficult if students were required to discuss it?

  • Strengths: As I said above, the consistency of the classes is great. In addition, the course introduction is clear. The video and text materials selected by the producer are not too long, which can improve the concentration of learners. In addition, inclusiveness is also very good, and YouTube is very inclusive. The goals of each chapter are also clearly written. This is a highly accomplished course.
  • Weakness: I feel that the course is a bit lacking in terms of interactive activities. I can see that each chapter has self tests. I wonder if the course can have some interaction and communication between students.

Provide general, specific, and practical recommendations to your peers on how to improve their Interactive Learning Resource. 

  • I love the courses you guys make. The “Essential Question” is a good starter but I feel like some introductions to the chapters could be made here. For example, some small examples in life can be cited. It can increase learners’ interest in learning this chapter in a simple and easy way. In addition, I think it is possible to join some discussions among students. For example, a topic discussion can be inserted before an exam. Learners can communicate with each other what they have learned in the chapters. I find it easier to remember what I’ve learned by writing down my thoughts with a pen.

Overall the course is engaging. Great production!

Interaction

  • I typed “what is ai” into the search box of a YouTube video. I’m looking for videos that are getting a lot of views. This video can trigger students to think. Students learn new knowledge. It is about making students respond in certain inherent ways. Below the video there is a comment field and a retweet button. Students can write their own opinions and learning feedback in the comment column. But I don’t think this way of responding is coercive because the creators of the video didn’t force them to do it.
  • I think they might be taking notes and thinking about the video. Several types of AI are introduced in the video. Under each category the authors give examples. Students can take notes to aid memory and comprehension. Students can also use videos to reflect on learning topics. For example, think about the examples of AI in daily life and what types they are.
  • I suggest that online discussion can be conducted after students watch the video. Students can communicate through Mattermost. Students can communicate to find out what other people think about the topic of study. This expands the student’s understanding of knowledge.
  • Students can conduct online discussion forms with teachers. The interaction between students and teachers can enable teachers to get learning feedback in time, so as to improve learning methods and answer students’ questions. Teachers can also create exams, such as multiple choice, through Google classroom. Through the scoring system of the software, students can intuitively observe the degree of understanding of the learning topics. Having a good feedback can motivate students’ enthusiasm for learning.
  • I think these two activities will bring me a lot of work. I need to give feedback to students’ discussions and answer their questions. Statistics about grades can be handed over to the computer. The activity is manageable and worthwhile. Because the feedback between students and teachers can make each other understand and collaborate with each other. For example, when students are faced with a lack of understanding, discussions and tests will give feedback to teachers and students.
  • This video shows what ai is in various forms. There is not only sound but also drawing in the video. In this way, students can understand the content more intuitively from the pictures. In addition, at the beginning of the video, the author used a very simple example in life. A person goes to a friend’s house to watch a movie, asks Siri about the weather before going out, and can use automatic driving on certain road sections while driving. This example of daily life can easily bring students into the situation. Because these are no strangers to students.
  • YouTube videos are pretty inclusive. Students can adjust subtitles, double speed, and sound volume. The length of the video is about 5 minutes, which can also ensure the concentration of students.

I really sympathize with what you said about learning materials. My study materials also include online reading and YouTube videos. The purpose of choosing video is that it can more succinctly describe what I want to teach. A variety of video playback functions to meet the different needs of learners. When I study in the library, I often mute my videos. This allows you to watch the video without interfering with others’ learning. In addition, the recording of class audio you mentioned in the article is also a good way. It is more convenient for learners who cannot attend classes in time, and they can also review the learning content through the audio.

Inclusive design is an important part of interactive design learning. Teachers engage learners with a variety of learning content. It can also break down all kinds of learning barriers. Everyone has an equal right to learn.

Inclusive Design

  • Inclusive design focuses on the differences between learners and prevents some learners from being marginalized. When we designing the learning program, we should enrich the teaching resources and content as much as possible.
  • My interactive learning resources include Youtube videos and reading materials. Youtube videos can be subtitled in different languages. This helps those students who are not very good at English. My interactive learning resource is an introduction to AI. For example, blind people can also listen to audio to understand the definition and function of AI. Online reading helps learners who can’t watch videos or don’t like to watch videos. They can also clearly understand the learning content through reading.
  • The face of COVID-19, we must study at home. Online teaching is possible through software such as ZOOM. Teachers can prepare more readings and videos to enrich the teaching content. In addition, tests and discussions during learning can also be conducted online. For example, UVIC’s brightspace, allows for online exams and discussions. In addition, learner can also use other software to interact online.
  • In my study activities, the online reading I choose is very long. I think this will be one of the barriers that prevents learners from learning. Because everyone’s attention is limited. For example, when we have a class in college, the duration of a class is usually one hour, the maximum is about three hours. Because people’s attention will become less and less as time goes on. In addition, each person has a limited capacity to absorb new knowledge. I would like to divide the long reading into two or three parts when assigning learning objectives and tasks. Learners can read at different times.
  • I think the obstacle that may exist in the learning environment is the problem of learner’s attention. When designing web pages, try to be as clean and clear as possible. Designers should not add too many decorations, so as not to distract attention. Try to be as diverse as possible in your learning activities. For example, use multiple media sources, Youtube, online reading, charts, picture examples. You can also break up long study materials into smaller sections. Break down tasks into manageable sizes. For example, instead of focusing on one test, it can be divided into two or three smaller tests. In this way, the psychological pressure of learners will not be too large, and learning will be more relaxed.

Cooperative learning

Cooperative learning is a type of learning environment. Cooperative learning is a structured learning strategy. Cooperative learning usually involves multiple learners forming a team. They work collaboratively to complete their studies. They have to work together to accomplish group goals. The learning objectives for the group as a whole are accomplished only when the objectives of each group member are accomplished. Group members have a mutual promotion relationship, and everyone can cooperate with each other. Team members can give full play to their strengths to complete the task. Due to this form of cooperation, this can improve the grades of the group members. Because we can help each other. For example, when facing a big learning goal, students can assign tasks according to their own strengths. In this way, everyone’s learning pressure is reduced, and everyone can learn their own topics more deeply. After completing your own tasks, give a speech to integrate knowledge. Faced with group members who have the same topic, they can discuss and conduct deeper research. The collision of the minds of the group members can stimulate a higher level of cognition. In cooperative learning, group members prefer to work on more difficult topics. Cooperative learning also increases communication and mutual feedback among team members. In the process of learning and displaying, team members need to use analogies, speeches, etc. to demonstrate their learning results. This will also strengthen the group member’s own memory. One of the most important points in learning is to stimulate students’ enthusiasm for learning. Cooperative learning can do just that. I think there is some consistency between cooperative learning and our group’s topic selection. The topic of our group is about AI. We will first explain the definition of AI. Later, the application and impact of AI in different fields will be described in detail. Learners can also learn through cooperative learning. Each member can learn different parts separately, and finally integrate learning.

In this chapter, I do not understand about constructivism. It doesn’t appear to be a learning method. My understanding of constructivist articles is to build a learning plan by yourself, and learners need to change the learning plan according to their own situation. This method seems to be more in line with the needs of different people. But this method is not suitable for beginners, such as teenagers, or people who are just learning. I think constructivism has limitations in its application.

In this article, I feel that learning the concept of cognitivism is somewhat difficult. The article has been talking about psychological problems. I tried to understand what the article said by reading it repeatedly. And connect it with the knowledge I have learned before. This allows me to better understand the content.

My major is economics and I have challenges while studying ECON203. This course is about intermediate microeconomics . I took behaviorism to learn. I will set a learning goal, such as how many scores I have reached in the midterm exam. Then I sort out the notes and check for omissions. If the old knowledge is not understood, you will learn the old knowledge and then learn the new knowledge. The results of the midterm exam met expectations, which is a positive feedback.

My best learning experience was learning to draw. My hobby is painting. I learned the basic theory and foundation of drawing at a young age. After constantly looking at the works of famous people and constantly changing my painting style, my understanding of painting will also change. The original theoretical basis has limitations. Memory is constantly rebuilt during the learning process. Learning to draw is a long process, and it took me about 10 years. Up to now, I still use new media to draw, such as ipad, ps. With each new material added, it took a lot of practice. And you can learn by analogy. This kind of learning is joyful and memorable.

Behaviorism: The teacher will strengthen the memory of the students through continuous practice. Some small tests can be designed to consolidate memory, and there are some small rewards for students with good grades.

Cognitivism: Teachers mobilize students’ enthusiasm for participation in learning. Some weather phenomena can be compared to things that students are familiar with. And can show some related examples.

Constructivism: Teachers can allow students to create their own learning plans, which can meet different learning needs. The learning goal is to be able to apply the acquired knowledge to daily life.

In my middle school and high school study life, I will do a lot of after-school exercises to ensure the consolidation of knowledge.

In the process of uvic learning. I will use diagrams to divide my notes. And use mind maps to organize learning ideas.

In the process of learning to paint, I will absorb new painting experience and apply the knowledge to my new works.

From what I’ve read, my teaching is closer to cognitivism. I will layer knowledge so that different groups of people can learn. I like to use mind maps to organize my notes and thought process. Use more discussions to exercise learners’ dialectical thinking. Like cognitivism says, memory is constantly changing. I see learning as a process that affects learners’ values and thinking
